Le champagne bio par Nicolas Feuillatte

Organic champagne by Nicolas Feuillatte

The recent launch of Organic Extra-Brut marks Maison Nicolas Feuillatte's entry into the organic champagne market! A look back at the reasons for this shift to entirely organic cuvées, a guarantee of superior quality but which requires an adaptation of winegrowers' habits. More than a passing fad, moving towards this type of production now seems obvious, both for climate and civic reasons.

Why get into organic champagne?

Respect for the soils and terroir of Champagne has led Maison Nicolas Feuillatte to redefine itself as an organic champagne producer. Working with 100% organic grapes guarantees a high level of quality. Nicolas Feuillatte thus aims to provide bottles that meet the highest standards, while ensuring the sale of champagne produced in an eco-responsible manner. The pleasure of drinking a glass can be fully realized in an ethical and environmentally conscious setting. It's best not to compromise on these values! Unlike a champagne produced in the traditional way, here no chemicals are used, despite the vagaries of the climate or soil.

What are the criteria to take into account?

To define yourself as an organic Champagne winemaker, precise specifications must be met. Becoming an organic producer requires total transparency regarding the methods and products used. It took months, even years, of work to find our organic champagne available online!

A minimum of 3 years are required for the "organic conversion". This adaptation period cannot be compressed. The winemaker needs time, but so does the vine. It must evacuate the synthetic products ingested over several years. The level of requirement is increased for the organic winemaker: the prevention work is more extensive, while having to face the vicissitudes of the weather with more uncertainty. This transition to organic requires real work on oneself, by transforming one's habits. But fortunately, nature is well made and helps him in this task!

Please note: we do not claim to be organic champagne producers. Several checks are carried out, resulting in the issuance of quality labels attesting to the organic nature of the production.

How do we produce our organic champagne?

Starting to sell organic champagne means introducing new practices into your production process. We integrate the natural environment as a whole at every stage to encourage the vines to flourish. We must trust our terroir and its benefits for the quality of our champagne. Just as it takes care of our future vintages, we must in turn respect and protect it: an alliance for the common good!

Acting consciously on the soils of Champagne is a way of giving back to this land for all it has given us. In this regard, the use of non-chemical products is a way of demonstrating our consideration for this ecosystem. Just as much as methods, organic farming is characterized above all by a state of mind. It strengthens the quality of the soil while ensuring the excellence of our future harvests.
